Presented is a first edition of James H. Straubel's Crusade for Airpower: The Story of the Air Force Association. Straubel signed the full title page in black ink just above his printed name. The book retains its original dust jacket. Published by Aerospace Education Foundation in 1982, this is a stated first edition. The book also includes an inscription from a previous owner dated 1984 on the first free end page.
The Air Force Association (AFA) has played an important role in promoting the importance of air power and aerospace education. Its mission is, “to promote a dominant United States Air Force, a strong national defense, to honor and support Airmen and the Air Force Family, and to remember and respect our Air Force Heritage.” This book takes the reader through the creation of the AFA and the work it’s done since. Crusade for Airpower also includes a forward by Jimmy Doolittle, the famous military general and aviator.
Overall good condition. Straubel's signature is written in black ink and is clearly legible. The just jacket has a some chips and small tears along the edges as well as minor wear on the back. It is now protected in a clear mylar cover. The original blue boards are in very good condition and the binding is tight. Internally, the pages are clean and bright. Pages are without damage except page 387/388 is torn and folded.
