1776 Historical Woods Collection: Sam Houston Fountain and Ballpoint Pens

The 1776 Historical Woods Collection: Sam Houston Fountain and Ballpoint Pens is a limited edition group of pens that feature Texas pecan planted by Sam Houston at his Huntsville home, circa 1847.

Houston's granddaughter told the story of the pecan tree: "Returning home from a trip, [Houston] pulled a pecan sapling from the ground to use as a makeshift buggy whip. Once home, he noticed the sapling's roots were intact and planted it in his yard." For 127 years this tree grew, but succumbed in 1974. From preserved sections of that same pecan tree, Eagle Pen Company built this pen series.

The father and son team behind Eagle Pen Company are purveyors of the world's most unique writing instruments. They share a goal of bringing the luxury pen back to America. From start to finish, each pen is designed and hand made in the USA.

Sam Houston Fountain Pens

The Sam Houston Fountain Pens feature a pen body with sections of the real Texas pecan wood planted by Sam Houston. The pen caps feature original painted artwork by Lynn Peterson celebrating the great Texan politician and soldier. Using an 1861 Matthew Brady photograph of Sam Houston for reference, Lynn Peterson hand-painted a miniature oil painting in aged, sepia tone gouache on each pen cap.

Each Sam Houston Fountain Pen edition contains one capped fountain pen, which can be converted into a rollerball pen, special red ink for the fountain pen, and a small vial of the pecan wood used to create each pen. The edition is presented in a special gift box with a numbered and signed certificate from Eagle Pen Company.

This pen series is a limited edition - with only 45 pens in the series.

Length - 5 1/4" capped, 6 1/2" posted. Weight - 1.8 oz

Sam Houston Ballpoint Pens
